I just got word from MLB PR that Manny Ramirez just filed his retirement papers. That is all I know and no one

Check out the skipper's smirk. I think it's safe to say he is excited about the lineup options. (AP Photo)
else is reporting it. So, there it is.
[Update] Looks like Personal Reason = Steroids = Retirement to avoid suspension.[Update]
I am pretty stunned. At least we aren’t committed to paying him any cash.

Mark,
It looks like I picked a lousy day to make my triumphant return to the Ray area. Where do I start? I mean the Cub fan in me was thinking it is still early and the Rays will eventually turn it around, but then the news of today just leaves me feeling stunned, confused, depressed, angry, etc… Got in the car on my way home today and I am listening on the radio to names like Desmond Jennings and Casey Kotchman being tossed around as replacements. Really? Before today’s announcement our lineup had too many utility guys playing everyday and now this? I haven’t even gotten to a game yet this year. Now Mark I know Longo will be back at some point and I still love our starting pitching, but I need a few more things to look forward to or get excited about for the remainder of this young season. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Go Rays
Last night was pretty exciting! As bad as the offense has look, the games have at least been entertaining. This team can certainly pitch. The offense will come around.
Mark,
Do you see our front office pursuing another veteran bat? If not, who do you think will protect Longoria in the lineup? We aren’t losing games in blow out fashion, the starting pitching has been decent. Despite the media perception, the bullpen looks like it can hold its own. When do you see things making an upswing?
I don’t know about acquiring a bat. I don’t think there are any out there to be acquired. But I think it will turn around. It just has to…right? This team had long droughts last year too. In fact, that is a good positive post for tomorrow morning.
Just a quick word: a number of media outlets have reported that Manny tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. There are performance-enhancing drugs other than anabolic steroids. I’m sure we all suspect that Manny was doing something like anabolic steroids, but unless Manny decided to tell all, we won’t know what he did or did not do.
That is a fair point Larry and, a distinction I was unwilling to see in my disbelief on Friday. Luckily, given the short duration of his tenure, this wears off fast.
