I am just going to put a sheet over that series loss in Baltimore for three reasons:

  1. It’s a holiday weekend.  No time for doom and gloom.  (the weather took care of the doom and gloom for all the labor day beach goers yesterday);
  2. Anyone surprised that a Joe Maddon team can’t get to an opponent’s jugular hasn’t been paying attention; and
  3. There was plenty of good news from yesterday.

Of course, all the good news fits squarely within Rocco Baldelli’s jersey.  I know it was only one swing.  And I know it came against a pretty beleaguered Baltimore bullpen.  And I know that we still don’t know if Rock is a viable right-handed bat for the stretch run or for October.  Heck, we don’t even know if that one pinch-hitting appearance will leave him too exhausted to play tonight against John Lester (probably wouldn’t anyway, Baldelli is 0-3 with 3 strikeouts in his career against Lester).

But here is what we do know: one of the most likeable guys I met in my 8 years in baseball came back from two baseball death sentences and hit a home run in a major league game.  That is just awesome.
