The following is old news but, it demands comment. I think just about everyone in the Rays universe and beyond has posted the following video and posed the “is it real” question. I actually saw it for the first time in an email from Brendan.
The discussion of the video’s authenticity is just what Gillette is looking for and, frankly, is a waste of time for a slew of reasons (memo to Gillette, if you are going to do a fake BP scene, maybe stop by BP someday and take note what the field looks like. Anyone take BP in the dark? Anyone take BP without a cage? Anyone take BP without a screen for the first basemen? Anyone take BP without 100 people loitering around the cage? Who wrote this? A Canadian? — that was a joke Chris. I just couldn’t resist.)
The thing that gets me about the whole “viral” video is Gillette’s outright lie when called out. Check out this quote:
Evan Longoria is a Gold Glove third baseman and the catch speaks for itself.
Is that really what qualifies as PR these days? Just straight lying? Did I get out of the PR racket too soon? PR people exist to cover their clients’ lies, not to lie on their behalf. Right?
Anyway, all this nonsense begs the question: Does this silliness hurt Longo’s national image? Discuss.
