That’s awesome! The only thing I dislike was in the comments when IIATMS guy compared Cincinatti to Tampa as far as metro area (when of course talking about our attendance). The key statistic is in the population’s distance to the stadium and lack of public transportation, when folks compare the Trop to every other big league stadium they leave that vital metric out.
In my estimation, there are very few (if any) actual “experts” on the business of sports. Even the best guys can’t know the details of every market because every market is so unique. I try to stay close to the experts that take that into account.
Merf: That’s a 100% fair point to bring up. I haven’t heard as much about the lack of public transportation but I will do my best to remember it for further discussions.
If nothing else, call us out on it!
Thanks, Jason. I’ve learned we are a small market and are a slowly building fanbase, so I’ve come to just accept that we’re an afterthought and joke to most of the networks (the fanbase, not the team…anymore). It’s frustrating to those of us that do give it our 100%, but I do really appreciate your acknowledgement.
Hey, at least we have a blogger now…that’s gotta count for something!
Merf:
I’ll say this:
1) You guys have an uphill climb. We hear too much of “oh, there’s a bridge” as the reason for the attendance, as well as the poor stadium. I think your mention was the first I heard about mass transit, however.
2) You are in very good hands with Mark.
3) I hope like hell your team stumbles, but I’m not going to bet on it.
