Jeremy Hellickson has been in Port Charlotte working out with the Rays’ high-A affiliate since his last start in Oakland. The goal is for Hellickson, who has always been a starter during his professional career, to learn how to warm up and prepare to pitch in the bullpen.

Tonight, Hellickson is scheduled to make his first relief appearance.

Not for nothing, but it seems to me that scheduling Hellickson to make a relief appearance undermines the entire point of this exercise. If Hellickson is going to join the bullpen when rosters expand next Wednesday, then he needs to be able to get ready to pitch unexpectedly. Right? Has any major league manager ever “scheduled” a relief appearance?

Maybe I am overthinking this.

Either way, can we stop calling Hellickson “Hell Boy?” That is the worst nickname ever (which is saying something in an era that thinks a First Initial and the First three letters of a last name is a nickname).

Look at that baby face.

What is “Hell”ish about that? Dude looks like one of the bat boys.
